The Trial of Johnny Cade

150+ intermediate students at Gananoque Intermediate and Secondary School have been studying the novel The Outsiders for the past four weeks. The students have enjoyed the novel immensely. Their energy and passion for the book has inspired our expansive and epic culminating assignment “The Trial of Johnny Cade”. Even though Johnny Cade is a fictional character from S.E. Hinton's novel, we are going to make this as real as possible. It requires everyone to "get into role". Students will become the witnesses, the barristers, the solicitors, judge, jury, social media, the press, forensic teams and sketch artists. Students will have just over a week to prepare themselves. With the guidance, knowledge and experience of community members, intermediate teachers
and high school teachers, students will immerse themselves into the roles. They will work with community artists, police officers, lawyers. They will find themselves in the high school science labs, law classes and art studios. The rigorous training and collaboration will make the event seem a reality.

Evidence Leaked!
Today we have discovered that the murder of Bob Sheldon isn't exactly how you may of heard it. Bob must have not died right away from the knife because he was in a different spot then where he had been stabbed. The jacket was found on the bench in the park and beside it, was a knife. There were footprints leading to the fountain, and leading away from the fountain. There were many more things found in the crime scene investigation which all lead up to Bobs death. If Bobs body was found away from the fountain then Johnny may have stabbed him but he may not have killed him. Bob could've crawled away from the fountain and somebody else could've stabbed him for the second time... It's all a mystery that everyone will find out on March 7, 2013. Johnny Cade will not be proven guilty, he is a scared innocent teenager wanting to fit in, just like everybody else.
