The Trial of Johnny Cade

150+ intermediate students at Gananoque Intermediate and Secondary School have been studying the novel The Outsiders for the past four weeks. The students have enjoyed the novel immensely. Their energy and passion for the book has inspired our expansive and epic culminating assignment “The Trial of Johnny Cade”. Even though Johnny Cade is a fictional character from S.E. Hinton's novel, we are going to make this as real as possible. It requires everyone to "get into role". Students will become the witnesses, the barristers, the solicitors, judge, jury, social media, the press, forensic teams and sketch artists. Students will have just over a week to prepare themselves. With the guidance, knowledge and experience of community members, intermediate teachers
and high school teachers, students will immerse themselves into the roles. They will work with community artists, police officers, lawyers. They will find themselves in the high school science labs, law classes and art studios. The rigorous training and collaboration will make the event seem a reality.

Bob's Jealous Rage!
I think that Johnny Cade is innocent. It wasnt his fault that he had to stab Bob. They were going to kill Ponyboy for no reason at all. They were drowning him, putting his head under the water at the park's water fountain. The Socs were drunk and not thinking. They were mad at the Greasers because Ponyboy and Bob's girlfriend Cherry had a connection. Bob was in a jealous rage.

Just Saving a Friend’s Life
Bob gets killed by Johnny with the knife at the park. Johnny was trying to protect his friend Ponyboy in the park. The Socs came up to Ponyboy and Johnny and tried to drown them. Bob was mad because the boys had stolen their girls that night at the drive-in. Johnny snuck up to Bob and sliced him because Bob was trying to drown Ponyboy in the fountain. Johnny was just trying to save a friend’s life.
~Darren Perry

Johnny is a Hero
I think it was self-defense because when Johnny saw Ponyboy drowning he had
to do something about it. So Johnny pulled a switchblade out and only wanted to hurt one of the Socs. All of the rest of the socs ran off. Johnny had been badly jumped by the Socs. If he just let the Socs drowned Ponyboy he would had been killed after. Johnny killed one of the Socs which caused them to run away and back off.

Evidence Leaked!
Today we have discovered that the murder of Bob Sheldon isn't exactly how you may of heard it. Bob must have not died right away from the knife because he was in a different spot then where he had been stabbed. The jacket was found on the bench in the park and beside it, was a knife. There were footprints leading to the fountain, and leading away from the fountain. There were many more things found in the crime scene investigation which all lead up to Bobs death. If Bobs body was found away from the fountain then Johnny may have stabbed him but he may not have killed him. Bob could've crawled away from the fountain and somebody else could've stabbed him for the second time... It's all a mystery that everyone will find out on March 7, 2013. Johnny Cade will not be proven guilty, he is a scared innocent teenager wanting to fit in, just like everybody else.

                                                                                   Evidence Was Leaked!

There was an evidence leak today and we have some interesting new facts about this case. There was a knife with blood  which is not surprising, hair in the fountain which proves that someones head had been dunked in it, and the body was found away from the crime scene. Did Bob get up and walk away? Did someone drag him? He clearly wasn't dead at first but maybe he got up and tried to go somewhere else. There was a coat on the bench, though it has not been brought to us whose coat it is. Today some interesting things were discovered, you may think what you want about them, but the hair in the fountain should prove that Johnny is innocent because his friend was being drowned and he had to save him. ~Mikayla Fabi

Johnny cade
The video about Johnny Cade’s defence starts out with the Socs starting the fight by coming on to the Greaser’s side and trash talking them. The Socs take Ponyboy Curtis to a fountain in the park and then they start drowning Ponyboy to death. Ponyboy’s best friend is Johnny and Johnny reaction was to kill Bob the Soc. What would you do to help your friend if someone was drowning him? Would you do the same thing Johnny did? If Johnny did it for self-defence, Johnny should not be put on trial.

Recent Video Evidence
In the recent video we posted it showed that Ponyboy Curtis was getting drowned by the Socs. If you were Johnny what would you do? Would you just stand there and be a bystander and do nothing or go save your best friends life?

The Evidence Videos

In both videos Johnny did stab Bob, its obvious but he had reason, Bob's friend was drowning Ponyboy and Bob was preventing him from saving Ponyboy.

Defence Video: In the defence video Johnny quite obviously stabbed Bob because he was helping Randy drown Ponyboy. This video looks more book related then the other because it follows the story line of the book. This video is obvously the more realistic one and has more book related facts and better of all proves Johnny innocent.

Prosecution Video: The Prosecution video just looks fake and is nothing like the book. In this video the greasers called over the soc's when in the other more realistic video the soc's obvously came up to the greasers.

Johnny Cade
Johnny Cade has it rough all over because of the fights with the Socs and getting beaten by his parents. Johnny would sometimes stay out late, he could stay out all night and his parents still wouldn’t care. Sometimes Johnny Cade’s parent role model would be Pony Boy because he would stay at Pony Boy’s house most of the time. Have you ever felt like your parents haven’t loved you? That is how Johnny feels. What would you do if one of your best friends were being drowned even though he didn’t cause any trouble? Would you help your friend or watch him die?

                                                               1 life instead of 2

Bob Sheldon went out one night drunk with a few friends or so and picked a fight with Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade. Bob's friend was drowning Ponyboy and Bob was going to beat up and/or kill Johnny so Johnny used his pocket knife to save Ponyboy and himself, what would you have done? Let your self be hurt/killed and your friend be drowned or use the knife in self defence to save two lives; Ponyboy's and his own!

 JUDGE JARED TROMBETTA

Today we asked Judge Jared Trombetta if he is ready for the trial, his response "Yes I am, but there is still some prep to do." This means Trombetta is going to be very serious about the trial. After that, we asked him if he thinks it will be interesting and he said "It will be an experience." Which means it may be the best/worst trial Judge Jared Trombetta has ever experienced.

The Accident Of Killing Bob Sheldon!

Johnny Cade (greaser) is being charged with murder against Bob Sheldon (soc) which we believe to be self defence, here is the story from Johnny's point of view: One night Bob Sheldon got drunk with a few friends and decided to pick a fight with Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade. One of Bobs friends was drowning Ponyboy and Bob was going to beat up Johnny. Johnny had a pocket knife and used it as self defence as a boy way bigger then him (bob) was about to beat him up, what would you have done? let Bob beat you up? or use your knife? The killing was obviously in self defence, Johnny had to save Ponyboy from being drowned and himself from being beat up.

How The lawyers are preparing their witnesses!

This is how the lawyers prepare their witnesses, they first start with telling the witness to tell the truth, and then they told the witness that the court room is a safe place. Remember that this is not a conversation because this could lead to life or death. The lawyers watch to see if they are changing their stories. When preparing a witness there are also a number of logistical issues to consider before the first meeting. When the trial is going on the lawyers think, will the witness do a good job? Or at least a sufficient job? One type of witness to be aware of is the vane Caesar someone who is senior enough in a company to assume that they must know the answer to the question. Do not be overly self-conscious but do not let down your guard.

Forensic Say Nothing
I caught up with some of the forensic people and they gave us some answer's but most of the time they said nothing. When we ask a question, the response we got from them was good .They said " It's pretty easy to match up the evidence with some of the people in the crime scene ". The next question I asked they would not answer. They kept on saying "no comment." I was getting no where. Finally I asked the final question and I got a better response this time. Their answer was, "We look for specific evidence and we match it to whoever it may belong to". I hope we get better responses in the future.

PHOTOGRAPHER GETS OUT OF HAND!
Yesterday our press went out to ask the east side some important questions about their newspaper. Nobody was expecting answers but we shockingly got replies! We asked Rachael Vanderscheer and Shannon Licharson if they knew what an eye popping caption is, and Licharson’s response was “What do you mean?” Well that is a pretty self-explanatory question. Once Licharson understood, she said “Definitely, we need to find the right story.” Vanderscheer comments “Sometimes.” The shocking part is, after we were done Vanderscheer went out of hand and hugged the press from the side. She made a creepy noise and said “See ya stranger.” Now everyone is wondering if there are crazy people on this newspaper team. Can Vanderscheer cover up what happened on February 28, 2013?

EASTSIDE NEWSPAPER ANSWERS QUESTIONS WITH A SHOCKING REPLY!
Today we went out and asked some questions to the East Side Newspaper and got some shocking replies. Today we ask them “Who you do think will win the trial on March 7, 2013 and we got the answer of Johnny Cade will win the upcoming trial. The newspaper said that if Bob was still alive then he wouldn’t have justice! We think the Westside newspaper is hiding something top secret. We went down to ask them some questions and they would either say “No comment” or “I can’t answer that question”. We all think they are hiding something important.
