The Trial of Johnny Cade

150+ intermediate students at Gananoque Intermediate and Secondary School have been studying the novel The Outsiders for the past four weeks. The students have enjoyed the novel immensely. Their energy and passion for the book has inspired our expansive and epic culminating assignment “The Trial of Johnny Cade”. Even though Johnny Cade is a fictional character from S.E. Hinton's novel, we are going to make this as real as possible. It requires everyone to "get into role". Students will become the witnesses, the barristers, the solicitors, judge, jury, social media, the press, forensic teams and sketch artists. Students will have just over a week to prepare themselves. With the guidance, knowledge and experience of community members, intermediate teachers
and high school teachers, students will immerse themselves into the roles. They will work with community artists, police officers, lawyers. They will find themselves in the high school science labs, law classes and art studios. The rigorous training and collaboration will make the event seem a reality.

Recent Video Evidence
In the recent video we posted it showed that Ponyboy Curtis was getting drowned by the Socs. If you were Johnny what would you do? Would you just stand there and be a bystander and do nothing or go save your best friends life?

The Evidence Videos

In both videos Johnny did stab Bob, its obvious but he had reason, Bob's friend was drowning Ponyboy and Bob was preventing him from saving Ponyboy.

Defence Video: In the defence video Johnny quite obviously stabbed Bob because he was helping Randy drown Ponyboy. This video looks more book related then the other because it follows the story line of the book. This video is obvously the more realistic one and has more book related facts and better of all proves Johnny innocent.

Prosecution Video: The Prosecution video just looks fake and is nothing like the book. In this video the greasers called over the soc's when in the other more realistic video the soc's obvously came up to the greasers.

Johnny Cade
Johnny Cade has it rough all over because of the fights with the Socs and getting beaten by his parents. Johnny would sometimes stay out late, he could stay out all night and his parents still wouldn’t care. Sometimes Johnny Cade’s parent role model would be Pony Boy because he would stay at Pony Boy’s house most of the time. Have you ever felt like your parents haven’t loved you? That is how Johnny feels. What would you do if one of your best friends were being drowned even though he didn’t cause any trouble? Would you help your friend or watch him die?

                                                               1 life instead of 2

Bob Sheldon went out one night drunk with a few friends or so and picked a fight with Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade. Bob's friend was drowning Ponyboy and Bob was going to beat up and/or kill Johnny so Johnny used his pocket knife to save Ponyboy and himself, what would you have done? Let your self be hurt/killed and your friend be drowned or use the knife in self defence to save two lives; Ponyboy's and his own!

 JUDGE JARED TROMBETTA

Today we asked Judge Jared Trombetta if he is ready for the trial, his response "Yes I am, but there is still some prep to do." This means Trombetta is going to be very serious about the trial. After that, we asked him if he thinks it will be interesting and he said "It will be an experience." Which means it may be the best/worst trial Judge Jared Trombetta has ever experienced.

The Accident Of Killing Bob Sheldon!

Johnny Cade (greaser) is being charged with murder against Bob Sheldon (soc) which we believe to be self defence, here is the story from Johnny's point of view: One night Bob Sheldon got drunk with a few friends and decided to pick a fight with Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade. One of Bobs friends was drowning Ponyboy and Bob was going to beat up Johnny. Johnny had a pocket knife and used it as self defence as a boy way bigger then him (bob) was about to beat him up, what would you have done? let Bob beat you up? or use your knife? The killing was obviously in self defence, Johnny had to save Ponyboy from being drowned and himself from being beat up.
