The Trial of Johnny Cade

150+ intermediate students at Gananoque Intermediate and Secondary School have been studying the novel The Outsiders for the past four weeks. The students have enjoyed the novel immensely. Their energy and passion for the book has inspired our expansive and epic culminating assignment “The Trial of Johnny Cade”. Even though Johnny Cade is a fictional character from S.E. Hinton's novel, we are going to make this as real as possible. It requires everyone to "get into role". Students will become the witnesses, the barristers, the solicitors, judge, jury, social media, the press, forensic teams and sketch artists. Students will have just over a week to prepare themselves. With the guidance, knowledge and experience of community members, intermediate teachers
and high school teachers, students will immerse themselves into the roles. They will work with community artists, police officers, lawyers. They will find themselves in the high school science labs, law classes and art studios. The rigorous training and collaboration will make the event seem a reality.

Bob's Jealous Rage!
I think that Johnny Cade is innocent. It wasnt his fault that he had to stab Bob. They were going to kill Ponyboy for no reason at all. They were drowning him, putting his head under the water at the park's water fountain. The Socs were drunk and not thinking. They were mad at the Greasers because Ponyboy and Bob's girlfriend Cherry had a connection. Bob was in a jealous rage.

Just Saving a Friend’s Life
Bob gets killed by Johnny with the knife at the park. Johnny was trying to protect his friend Ponyboy in the park. The Socs came up to Ponyboy and Johnny and tried to drown them. Bob was mad because the boys had stolen their girls that night at the drive-in. Johnny snuck up to Bob and sliced him because Bob was trying to drown Ponyboy in the fountain. Johnny was just trying to save a friend’s life.

Johnny is a Hero
I think it was self-defense because when Johnny saw Ponyboy drowning he had
to do something about it. So Johnny pulled a switchblade out and only wanted to hurt one of the Socs. All of the rest of the socs ran off. Johnny had been badly jumped by the Socs. If he just let the Socs drowned Ponyboy he would had been killed after. Johnny killed one of the Socs which caused them to run away and back off.

Evidence Leaked!
Today we have discovered that the murder of Bob Sheldon isn't exactly how you may of heard it. Bob must have not died right away from the knife because he was in a different spot then where he had been stabbed. The jacket was found on the bench in the park and beside it, was a knife. There were footprints leading to the fountain, and leading away from the fountain. There were many more things found in the crime scene investigation which all lead up to Bobs death. If Bobs body was found away from the fountain then Johnny may have stabbed him but he may not have killed him. Bob could've crawled away from the fountain and somebody else could've stabbed him for the second time... It's all a mystery that everyone will find out on March 7, 2013. Johnny Cade will not be proven guilty, he is a scared innocent teenager wanting to fit in, just like everybody else.

                                                                                   Evidence Was Leaked!

There was an evidence leak today and we have some interesting new facts about this case. There was a knife with blood  which is not surprising, hair in the fountain which proves that someones head had been dunked in it, and the body was found away from the crime scene. Did Bob get up and walk away? Did someone drag him? He clearly wasn't dead at first but maybe he got up and tried to go somewhere else. There was a coat on the bench, though it has not been brought to us whose coat it is. Today some interesting things were discovered, you may think what you want about them, but the hair in the fountain should prove that Johnny is innocent because his friend was being drowned and he had to save him. ~Mikayla Fabi

Johnny cade
The video about Johnny Cade’s defence starts out with the Socs starting the fight by coming on to the Greaser’s side and trash talking them. The Socs take Ponyboy Curtis to a fountain in the park and then they start drowning Ponyboy to death. Ponyboy’s best friend is Johnny and Johnny reaction was to kill Bob the Soc. What would you do to help your friend if someone was drowning him? Would you do the same thing Johnny did? If Johnny did it for self-defence, Johnny should not be put on trial.
